Clinical placement allocation
As a nursing or midwifery student, you will be allocated a clinical placement based on the subject you are enrolled in. The CPU will endeavour to place you at a facility within 90 mins of your home address.
Students must be available for all clinical blocks as indicated on the Work Integrated Learning Calendar. The Work Integrated Learning Calendar outlines the placement blocks throughout the calendar year.
- 2024 Nursing Work Integrated Learning Calendar (PDF, 122KB)
- 2024 Midwifery Work Integrated Learning Calendar (PDF, 106KB)
The Clinical Practice Unit arranges the clinical placements for all students. Students must not arrange their own placement, nor engage with clinical stakeholders
Once your placement is allocated, you may be able to swap your placement with another student.
Clinical placement locations
- Placements are located within the Sydney Metro area and could be at a public or private hospital or health facility.
- From second year, you can apply to undertake a placement in a rural or regional setting. For information on rural and regional hospitals, and healthcare facilities contact the Clinical Practice Unit.
Submitting preferences (3rd year Nursing students only)
You'll be able to see the preferences when you have:
- Obtained clinical compliance
- Completed the Inherent Requirements form
Conflicts of interest
You may have a conflict of interest in certain healthcare facilities due to personal or family employment or other circumstances.
If you believe that the facility you’ve been placed in poses a significant conflict of interest, contact the Clinical Practice Unit.
The CPU will then place you in alternate wards or clinical environments to ensure you have the best possible learning experience from your placement.
