Introductory Academic Program (IAP)
The IAP is a three to five-week compulsory academic preparatory program. You'll need to arrive at UTS much earlier than other international students to attend. If you can't complete the full program, you may need to defer your studies to the next session.
What does the program include?
The IAP organised by UTS normally includes up to 50-hours of Sponsored Team organised activities and orientation.
The program includes:
- IAP Overview – includes expectations and responsibilities of Australia Awards Scholarship students.
- accommodation information
- IT sessions
- Welcome lunch with current Australia Awards Scholarship students at UTS
- tours, to landmarks such as the Sydney Opera House and the Blue Mountains
These sessions also provide HELPS skills training in the following areas:
- orientation to academic life and expectations of lecturers
- research preparation including literature search using electronic library databases
- academic writing
- listening and communication skills
- seminar presentation skills.
The program also includes:

- Australian and Indigenous Cultures
- computer sessions
- lunch with current Australia Awards Scholarship students at UTS
- tours, to landmarks such as the Sydney Opera House and the Blue Mountains
