We offer a range of services and facilitate requests for reasonable adjustments for participation and assessment for students that are registered with the Accessibility Service.

Our team of Accessibility Consultants (ACs) will consult with you about your needs, and with your agreement, they can help you in a number of ways, including:

  • Confidential appointments where you can discuss how the University can provide you with an accessible learning environment to maximise your participation and minimise the impact of disability or health conditions on your studies.
  • Providing services to assist with access. These include both individual support services and general access assistance.
  • Consulting with you about your needs and making recommendations for learning and assessment adjustments for your Academic Liaison Officer (ALO) (PDF, 51kB). As part of your registration with the Accessibility Service and only with your consent, a referral of your learning and assessment adjustments will be made to your Faculty Academic Liaison Officer (ALO) who will work together with you and your AC.
  • Facilitating your application and recommending Exam Provisions if you will be disadvantaged by a disability /health condition in exams.
  • Developing a statement for your academic staff about the impact of your disability or ongoing health condition, with suggested inclusive practices to enable your participation.
  • Assisting you to link into relevant UTS services, as well as making referrals if needed.

To help us provide your support in a timely way:

  • Make an appointment to register with us early, i.e. as soon as you receive your offer, prior to the start of session, or following the a disability or health condition diagnosis that is impacting upon your study.
  • Contact us early if there’s something that we can help with.
  • Keep in touch and let us know how you’re going, and
  • Inform us about any problems as soon as they arise.

Important note

The Accessibility Service is made available to service users subject to demand, which varies at different times in the academic year. Priority for earlier appointments is given to students who acquire a disability after commencing study. Students with known disabilities are expected to make contact as early as possible to request assistance. Service users will be informed of the nature, frequency and duration of service that is reasonable, based on the level of demand, staff availability, and service user needs.

The University reserves the right to take all necessary action to protect the safety of its staff, students and facilities, and to ensure reasonable use of services and facilities. This may include revoking or placing conditions on access to facilities, services, or campus precincts.

Acknowledgement of Country

We would also like to pay respect to the Elders both past and present, acknowledging them as the traditional custodians of knowledge for these lands.
