Study Animation and Visualisation at UTS 

The UTS Master of Animation and Visualisation is a hands on, one year accelerated postgraduate degree developed in partnership with the industry leading 3D animation studio Animal Logic. Designed for students with creative professionals this program allows you to study your chosen specialisation in 3D animation or visual effects, learning the latest industry practices in a professional, immersive studio.

Drawing together students from a broad range of backgrounds, including digital artists and designers, 3D modellers, animators, visual effects artists, computer science and IT graduates, this program offers you the opportunity to collaborate and produce large scale, studio quality animated films and visual effects projects. What you’ll study

To enrol in this program, you’ll need an undergraduate qualification or equivalent workplace experience in one area of specialisation. As a student, you’ll undertake three studio subjects, where you’ll build your expertise in one of the following areas: art department, modelling, rigging, animation, pre-visualisation/layout, surfacing, effects, lighting, compositing, technical direction or production management.

Working with students across a wide range of disciplines, you will develop and produce a studio-level 3D animation short film. Upon completing the course, you will be ready to enter the workforce with advanced creative and technical skills, as well as experience working as part of a professional team.

  1. The Connected Studio

    In the first studio, you will work together to develop the story for the year's 3D animated short film. After deciding on a storyline, you will break into your specialised departments to complete the pre-production of the project.
  2. The Collaboration Studio

    In the second studio, you will explore new visualisation technologies which will be used to produce your animated project. Previously, these have included augmented reality (AR), virtual reality (VR), extended reality (XR), artificial intelligence (AI), real-time, virtual production and visual effects.
  3. The Challenge Studio

    During this final studio students complete the 3D animated short film and any other outstanding projects to industry standards. At the end of the session, we celebrate with our End of Year Showcase, where we invite key industry partners to view the incredible work the students’ accomplished throughout the year, and give students the opportunity to network with potential future employers.

This course will provide you with the opportunity to deepen your existing knowledge and skills in the chosen area of your specialisation. Through large scale, collaborative project work you’ll develop creative thinking, problem solving, teamwork and effective communication skills.
