Health and safety responsibilities of students

 

Responsibilities

While at UTS as a student, you should be aware that you too have health, safety and wellbeing responsibilities. All students must:

The above requirement applies to:

  • all award and non-award students of the University
  • cross-institutional students - students of other Australian universities undertaking cross-institutional study at UTS or using UTS facilities available under reciprocal arrangements with their home institutions
  • international students undertaking studies at the University as part of the study abroad or exchange programs, and
  • visiting international graduate-level research students undertaking supervised research at UTS.

Know what to do

In an emergency

Dial

  • 6 from any internal phone, or
  • 1800 249 559 from mobile phones (everyone who has a mobile phone on campus should add this number to their contacts).

You should be familiar with the UTS evacuation procedures. UTS: Facilities management provide details of the evacuation procedures, and the Escape from UTS video which shows how to evacuate UTS.

If you are involved in any accident or incident (including a near miss) at UTS it must be reported. Find out more about reporting an accident or incident at UTS.

If someone is injured, ensure that they receive first aid and/or medical treatment.

Students who injure themselves or damage their property while on UTS premises, or while undertaking voluntary work experience or going on site visits should contact UTS Insurance.

If you see a hazard or risk

Report it to a UTS staff member or UTS Security. Then something can be done to fix the problem.
