The UTS  Sport & Exercise Science Telepractice Clinic is a not-for-profit teaching and learning clinic that provides quality services to the community.

""

About the clinic

The services offered in our UTS Sport & Exercise Science Telepractice Clinic are provided by third-year students who are undertaking a Bachelor of Exercise & Sport Science. All students are under the supervision of highly qualified and experienced Exercise Scientists.

Our clinic provides evidence-based sport and exercise practices to meet the needs of each client. An initial assessment is undertaken by students with each client to establish their goals and physical capabilities, and then an evidence-based exercise program is prescribed accordingly. Ten weekly sessions are delivered to clients over Zoom, and there is an expectation that clients actively perform the exercise program during the sessions.

It is important to note that the UTS Exercise Science Telepractice service is a 10-week structured program that we offer once a year from March - May, 2025. Also please be aware that the clinic operates in alignment with the academic term.
All services are by appointment only.

To create a meaningful learning experience for our UTS students, to meet our accreditation standards, and to ensure client progress, we do require the following:

  • Clients must commit to their scheduled appointments.
Please note: the appointments are scheduled for the same time and day each week for the 10 weeks.
  • Clients are expected to actively perform the exercise program during the Zoom session.

To make an appointment, please follow the appointment process below.

For any other queries, email us at SportExerciseClinic@uts.edu.au (our preferred contact method), or phone us on 0491 690 445.

Clinic staff will be available from Monday to Friday 9am to 5pm to answer email and telephone enquiries.

We look forward to providing you with the services to improve your overall health and fitness, well-being, or performance.

Kellie Ellis – Associate Lecturer (Work Integrated Learning)

The Telepractice Clinic is one of the services that we provide here at the School of Sport, Exercise and Rehabilitation. This service is open to members of the public and it operates from Level 2 of our UTS building in the Moore Park precinct. Clients can undertake the service remotely, via Zoom, from the comfort of their own home or a venue of their choosing.

The clinic provides an important community service, as it allows people the opportunity to undertake a free exercise intervention with emerging exercise scientists who are under the supervision of a qualified industry professional.

People aged 18 years and above can book in and be a client. They need to be apparently healthy, and this means that they need to not have any underlying medical conditions or injuries. If they do, we may ask that they get a medical clearance from their general practitioner, which will allow them to then participate in the program.

The session delivery is really flexible, due to us using Zoom as the mode of delivery. Clients can choose any location they wish, and feel most comfortable in, that is safe for them to undertake the exercise program.

Week one of all programs will be an assessment. This assessment involves questions by our students and also physical testing of the client. This testing will then determine what the program looks like and the physical delivery of the sessions thereafter.

No equipment is needed by our clients for the program, and this is determined in week one. If the client does have equipment, we will incorporate that into their programming.

Clients will go through physical activity in every session. The physical activity might range from a little mini circuit that they do in their lounge room, it could be push-ups, sit-ups, squats, lunges. It may be some cardio activity. It all depends on the space that the client has to undertake the program and also what their goals are.

We’ve got lots of different clients that we can help within our clinic, they can be training for a marathon, looking to increase their mobility, their flexibility, their strength, their power. It all depends on client needs.

Distinguished Professor Aaron Coutts – Head, School of Sport, Exercise and Rehabilitation

It’s really important as a university that we provide best available practice that’s informed by research. So what we do here at the clinic is informed by the latest research and the latest information on professional practice. The system we’ve developed here helps our clients in that they get free service, a high-quality service,  and you’re also supporting the development of the future generation of sport and exercise professionals.

Karly Vouros – Bachelor of Sport and Exercise Science

It’s helped me to become more confident in prescribing exercises for the general population. So having access to real-life clients ranging from 18-year-olds through to 70-year-olds, coordinating exercises with the great superviso who has a wealth of knowledge and seeing the clients grow each week, seeing them realise that they really enjoy it. Seeing that they want to improve their health because they want to, that’s really rewarding.
