Professor Emily Callander
Professor Callander, a Professor in Health Economics in the School, has led an economic evaluation of the real-world cost of implementing continuity of midwifery care in partnership with Gold Coast Health.
In addition to providing the economic evidence this hospital required to support the expansion of this model of care, the work also provided a open-source template for embedding economic analyses into routine service delivery in maternity care.
The work has subsequently been disseminated through the national peak body, Women’s Healthcare Australasia to all executives of maternity services. Maternity hospitals in Victoria (Royal Women’s) and Western Australia (King Edward Memorial) have subsequently sought collaboration to implement this approach.
