Our Honours programs provide an invaluable opportunity for eligible graduates of the Bachelor of Nursing and the Bachelor of Midwifery to enrich their skills and delve deeper into the research process. You'll have the opportunity to develop training in clinically focused research and deepen your understanding of the reciprocal relationship between nursing and or midwifery research and the contexts of nursing practice.

Fast-track to a PhD

Our Bachelor of Nursing (Honours) and Bachelor of Midwifery (Honours) programs serve as a fast-track to pursuing PhD studies, boosting your employability, and broadening your career prospects as a Registered Nurse or Midwife who also engages in research within a hospital setting.

Typically, the Honours program is completed over two years of part-time study, though an accelerated path of one-year full-time study is also available. The program comprises one mandatory research subject and two dissertation subjects.

Please refer to the links below to find out more and how to apply.

  • Bachelor of Nursing (Honours)

  • Bachelor of Midwifery (Honours)

Should you be interested in applying for this program or if you have any questions, please email the school Honours and Higher Degree Research Coordinator, Dr Jessica Appleton.

Student testimonials

Weizhe Sun

I completed a BN at UTS in 2018, then obtained my BN (Hons) from UTS in 2020, and my research topic was about return to work post myocardial infarction.

I received continuous support from my supervisory team during my Honours year; I met with my supervisors regularly to talk about my research progressions and where I could perform better. My supervisors always explained to me patiently if I had any questions.

It is definitely worth pursuing an Honours degree at UTS; without this program, I wouldn’t have two academic publications, meaning that I wouldn’t secure the two scholarships that I have now easily.

Currently, I am pursuing my MPhil at Monash University, and my research project focuses on operating room nursing and the COVID-19 pandemic. Meanwhile, I work clinically as an operating room nurse in a local tertiary comprehensive hospital.

– Weizhe Sun
