Join the Spring 2024 41130 Professional Practice Studio to unlock the power of Universal Design and transform UTS for everyone!
Professional Practice Studio
The Professional Practice Studio runs once per year in the Spring semester and is open to all FEIT students as an elective.
The studio tasks students with applying the disciplinary skills they have been developing to a complex project outside of typical engineering and IT contexts, challenging and expanding students' understanding of what they can do with the skills they've developed.

Spring 2024: Universal Design
Ready to create a better UTS?
Enrol now in 41130 on your timetable, or contact the subject coordinators if you have any questions.
Do you want to make a difference in creating an inclusive campus environment?
UTS should be a place where everyone feels welcome and can fully participate in university life. However, this experience is not universal for all staff and students.
Join the Spring 2024 41130 Professional Practice Studio, learn how to break down barriers, create a more inclusive environment using Universal Design, and transform UTS for everyone!
You will define your project in the context of Universal Design at UTS. Your project might be focused on facilities, teaching and learning, co-curricular activities or any other aspect you feel can be improved.
Through Universal Design, we develop solutions that understand and meet the needs of diverse people, including but not limited to people of all ages, people from culturally diverse backgrounds, people with disabilities, etc.
You will be guided through the process by academics who will support your learning and facilitate access to stakeholders and other resources you need to progress your project.
Who can do the Studio?
Interdisciplinary studio open to all Engineering and IT students who have completed 72 credit points and either 48230 or 31265. See the Handbook for more details.
If you have not met the subject requirements but believe you are ready to complete the studio, please email the coordinators.

Participating in the studio was an incredibly transformative learning experience for me during my studies. Going into the program, I had a strong preconceived approach to problem solving as well as strong assumptions about what our solution to the problem should be. However, through being exposed to brand-new problem-solving frameworks and a diverse group of students, I was able to become proficient in new ways of thinking which have been useful in other academic/professional endeavours.

Taking part in this studio subject was such a wonderful experience as it allowed me to see how the skills Iād been developing during my IT degree could be applied outside of that domain. I came into the studio with a strong foundational knowledge of the design thinking process, which the studio allowed me to apply to a completely new context. This gave me an even deeper understanding of the power of design thinking, and allowed me to see how the skills I was developing were not constrained to an IT context. It was also exciting to work on a project that had real impact beyond the classroom.
