Meet Rainie
As an undergraduate in China, Rainie attained a BA in Computer Science and wanted to dive headfirst into software engineering for a postgraduate degree. Initially attracted to Sydney for its natural beauty and for its world-class academic reputation, Rainie learned about UTS’ top-ranked software engineering program. She liked that the Master of Engineering (Extension) focused on practical skills and provides education in the latest software engineering technologies.
“UTS, provides a wide range of courses that aligned with my career goals such as artificial intelligence, web, and mobile application development. I learned JavaScript, .NET, and the newest frontend frameworks, React, and Angular. These technologies that I learned from UTS were the most popular technologies in the job market and helped me find a job later on.”
One of Rainie’s favourite aspects of studying software engineering at UTS was learning about cutting-edge technologies and current industry practices.
“The professors constantly update the subjects to reflect the latest trends in the field, which helped me stay up-to-date with industry developments. I learned Deep Learning technology during a summer studio course. I applied the technology that I learned from that course to my graduate project. I made an app where farmers could upload pictures of their plants, and then the app would return a result of any illness the plant may have, so farmers could use the correct pesticide.”
Rainie turned to the UTS Career Hub to start networking within the software engineering field, for advice on her CV, and the job application process. Thanks to UTS CareerHub, she was able to secure an internship as a Frontend Developer at Vmor Technology. This internship helped Rainie gain real-world work experience in the IT and software engineering industry. She credits this internship with giving her a solid base of knowledge to get her first job after graduation as a Frontend Developer at Speedy Linkage Technology.
UTS provides a wide range of subjects in the latest technologies. Initially set on web development, I learned the newest frontend framework—React and Angular. The knowledge and skills that I learned from UTS helped me to secure my first position after graduating and also provided me with a strong foundation for becoming a Software Engineer.
Rainie currently works as a Software Engineer at LexisNexis Risk Solutions, where her responsibilities include writing code, testing new programs, debugging systems, and various other tasks related to software development.
