Positioning her Iranian heritage as a point of reference, Rezaei Daghigh uses her design practice as a tool to explore contemporary political, cultural and religious tensions of which this menswear collection is a personal response. Taking inspiration from the intricate colours, motifs and geometric shapes of Islamic architecture, as well as Persian handicrafts and calligraphy, the garments explore gesture through the process of textile design and screen printing. The collection can also be understood as a response to – and support of – the ‘Girls of Revolution Street’ campaign which is a movement of Persian women protesting the compulsory wearing of the Hijab, as well as the stereotypical image in the west of women wearing veils.
