New Faculty-level KTP with VNU Hanoi
On 17 May FEIT formalised its growing relationship with VNU-UET with the signing of a faculty-level Key Technology Partnership (KTP) – a first for UTS. A senior FEIT delegation travelled to Hanoi for the signing.
The Faculty KTP (Engineering and IT) Visiting Fellow Program will commence in 2018. Applications open 1 August. More information can be found on the Faculty KTP (Engineering and IT) site.
New JRC between UTS and Ho Chi Minh City University of Technology
On 16 May a new joint research centre was launched between UTS and Ho Chi Minh City University of Technology (HCMUT), with a focus on emerging technologies such as smart cities and cybersecurity.
A delegation led by UTS Provost and Senior Vice-President Prof Andrew Parfitt travelled to Vietnam for the official launch.
Research School 2018
UTS, HCMUT, and VNU-UET delivered Research School 2018 “Enabling Technologies for Smart City” in Ho Chi Minh City on 14-15 May 2018. The aim of RS2018 was to address a high level of interest and introduce the latest developments in smart city enabling technologies to students and researchers in Vietnam and to foster exchanges of ideas and PhD training opportunities.
Distinguished professors from UTS, HCMUT and VNU-UET delivered lectures on cyber security, 5G communications technology, artificial intelligence, data and video analytics, and semiconductor technologies.
Research School 2017
The first Research School on “Advanced Technologies for IoT Applications” (RS2017) commenced with the official signing of the Joint Research Cooperation agreement between UTS and VNU on 15 March.
DVCR Professor Glenn Wightwick travelled to Hanoi with a delegation from UTS FEIT for the signing.
RS2017 was developed after increasing interest in the academic and industrial sectors in Vietnam to collaborate with Australian partners on emerging areas of common interest in science and technology. The Research School was supported by UTS, the Australian Government, Vietnam National University, and Vietnam Ministry of Science and Technology.
Participants travelled from 21 provinces and cities across Vietnam to attend. The Research School featured lectures by renowned academics from UTS and VNU, and a poster competition to highlight and showcase the research of the student participants.
The awards for best posters were presented by the Australian Ambassador to Vietnam as part of a launch reception held for the Joint Technology and Innovation Research Centre.

UTS-VNU Joint Technology and Innovation Research Centre launch
The official launch of the UTS-VNU Joint Technology and Innovation Research Centre was held on 17 March at Vietnam National University campus in Hanoi.
The launch celebrated the multi‐faceted, dynamic and truly collaborative model of partnership established by UTS and VNU, the first of its kind between Vietnam and Australia.
Guests at the launch included government, industry, and academic representatives. The Australian Ambassador to Vietnam, HE Mr Craig Chittick, was also in attendance.
