Hokkaido University (HU) is a leading comprehensive university and is a member of the Imperial Universities, which represent Japan’s leading institutes in higher education and research. With a history of over 140 years, Hokkaido University places emphasis on its graduate schools, under a focus on providing global perspectives, practical learning and developing a pioneering approach in its research and education.
The UTS Faculty of Engineering and IT and HU, via its Graduate School of Information Science and Technology and Faculty of Engineering, have developed a strong collaborative relationship, including via extensive staff mobility, and joint academic appointments. The Faculty Key Technology Partnerships will further encourage student and academic cooperation and will extend partnerships with industry in Australia and Japan.

Vietnam National University is the largest comprehensive higher education and research centre in Vietnam. It was established to become a leading interdisciplinary and multidisciplinary research university to contribute significantly to Vietnam’s industrialisation and modernisation. VNU-UET is a member university under the Vietnam National University (VNU) Hanoi umbrella.
UTS and UET have developed a multi-faceted, dynamic and truly collaborative partnership, culminating in the establishment of a joint research centre. The Joint Technology and Innovation Research Centre (JTIRC) is the first of its kind between Australia and Vietnam, and aims to foster excellence in research collaboration and technology transfer through PhD training, expert exchange programs and industry engagement.
