Why you need U:PASS in your life
One of the UTS study support systems that has really helped me during my time at uni is U:PASS. U:PASS is a peer-assisted learning program designed to help students succeed in subjects that have a high failure rate or are thought to be challenging.
It is run by students that have done well in the subject previously and they then help facilitate your learning in a relaxed and collaborative environment. This support service has helped me so much - especially in my economics subjects - to solidify my understanding of numerous fundamental concepts.
You have the opportunity to learn from your peers and someone who has been in your shoes not long ago. The setting is also a lot more relaxed than a standard tutorial or lecture, so you can feel comfortable to ask any questions you have, or get clarification on any concepts discussed in your classes.
The activities designed by the U:PASS leaders helped to reinforce my knowledge of concepts I had struggled to understand initially and gave me the chance to shed insights on areas that I understood to the rest of my peers.
The small group size allows for more group interaction which is great because just being able to talk about concepts really helps in the understanding and retention of information. You also get to hear study techniques that other people have used successfully, which you can opt to try yourself!
If the subject offers U:PASS, I would really recommend it: whether you aren't really grasping what's going on in your standard classes or you think you understand everything! Everyone can learn and benefit from this study support system.
