A day in the life of a UTS engineering student
Keen to hear about what you’ll get up to as an engineering student here at UTS? We sat down to chat with software engineering student Andrew Do to hear about what his day looks like. Here’s Andrew…
8AM: My alarm goes off. I have breakfast, grab the essentials and hop on the train to Central. Having uni so close to Central means it’s a quick train trip and 5-minute walk for me.
9AM: I arrive at my collaborative studio for Software Engineering. In this subject we’re designing an application for an industry client. This week, my team has a mid-semester client showcase for our studio project. This involves a quick presentation and walkthrough of the web application we have developed.
11AM - 12PM: Lunch time! After completing my morning class, I have lunch at one of the cafes at uni with some friends before my next tutorial. Today, the special is Chicken Schnitzel. Yum!
12PM: I arrive at my next class which is about Database Fundamentals. We are going over scripts and working within our groups.
2PM - 3PM: Break time! Usually, I take this time to catch up with some friends in the new Building 2 library. I also use this time to catch up on some pre-recorded lectures.
3PM - 5PM: I rush off to the Faculty of Engineering and IT Learning Precinct where my group has decided to meet. We need to discuss our next steps in an extra curricula competition we’re taking part in. This is typically the time where we have quick ideation and brainstorming session on what software frameworks could work and what can be ruled out.
5PM: Now that my classes and meetings are finished, I tend to find a quiet location to start completing my major assignments. There are usually great spaces with charging ports for your laptop on the upper levels of Building 11. Depending on the day, I might even join a hackathon to test my software skills in a competitive environment.
