Record of exclusion
Have you been excluded at any time in your previous tertiary studies?
If you’re applying to UTS as a non-recent school leaver for an undergraduate course and have a record of exclusion in any previous tertiary study, it’s not the end of your academic journey.
At UTS, we know that your circumstances are constantly changing and believe that you can still do well in tertiary study even though you may have been excluded in the past.
What do I need to do to be considered if I have a record of exclusion?
Step 1:
When completing your UAC application (opens an external site), you must declare your record of exclusion by including all previous study you have attempted or completed in your UAC application.
Step 2:
Prepare your statement of exclusion responses to the questions below. You will be asked to upload them as a separate document (eg. Word, PDF):
- What circumstances led to your exclusion? (Max 500 words)
- Why do you believe that you are now prepared for success in university level study at UTS? This may include changes in your circumstances, further education, employment, or other factors (Max 500 words)
Step 3:
Complete and submit the online Statement of Exclusion form. Remember to attach your responses to the above questions.
A reminder that if you are currently excluded from UTS or another institution, you cannot be considered for an offer until you have served your exclusion.
What's next?
Once you’ve submitted your Statement of Exclusion, it’ll be reviewed and considered by the faculties of each UTS preference in your UAC application. Please note it may take up to 4 weeks for your statement to be processed.
You’ll then receive an email from UTS with the outcome of your Statement of Exclusion.
Frequently asked questions
Do I need to wait for my exclusion to end before I submit a Statement of Exclusion?
If your exclusion ends before the course you're applying for commences:
- submit your online Statement of Exclusion form as soon as possible to allow for assessment processing time
- we will assess your statement and email you with an outcome
- you will not be considered for an offer until your exclusion period ends
If your exclusion ends after the course you're applying for commences:
- reapply via UAC (opens an external link) once your exclusion has ended
I’ve submitted my Statement of Exclusion. Can I edit my submission?
You won’t be able to edit your statement once you’ve submitted it. If you have additional documents you wish to submit, please resubmit your online Statement of Exclusion form.
My appeal was successful but my UAC application still says ‘decision pending – previous exclusion’. How can I compete for an offer?
If your appeal was successful, please contact UAC (opens to external site) to remove the exclusion status from your application.
I’ve already submitted my Statement of Exclusion but have changed my preferences. Do I need to resubmit my statement?
If you added any new preferences in your UAC application, please resubmit your online Statement of Exclusion form. Each preference in your UAC application is independent and will need to be approved by the relevant faculty.
Once you have resubmitted your Statement of Exclusion, it will be reviewed by all the faculties of each UTS preference.
I’m unsure if UTS considers my academic suspension from my previous tertiary studies as an exclusion. Do I need to submit a Statement of Exclusion?
Once you’ve declared all your previous studies in your UAC application, UAC will contact you to let you know if you’re required to submit a Statement of Exclusion to UTS.
