One highlight of my studies was doing an internship with a lab at UTS
I am technically a 90s kid, having been born in 1999. I have a (technically younger) twin brother. My family is French, and this was the first language I learnt how to speak. In 2017, I graduated from Ravenswood School for Girls after completing the IB Diploma Programme.
I have always had a passion for science, particularly biology, and have always loved problem-solving and puzzles. So, forensic science is truly the perfect degree for me. Furthermore, I was fascinated with unlocking the mysteries of the human body post-mortem and evaluating the factors affecting decomposition. This fascination drove me down the path of forensic biology.
I am passionate about science. For example, I enjoy reading up on all the latest ground-breaking theories, conducting experiments, and undertaking research. I also love to embroider, dance and bake. These are all things I do to relax.
I chose to study at UTS because, when it comes to forensic science, UTS is the best institution in Australia. I also loved the convenient location and the emphasis on practical skills, something I believe to be extremely important in science degrees.
One highlight of my studies was doing an internship with a lab at UTS. Working in the labs in B4L6 was a really cool experience. I had the opportunity to meet the amazing researchers, honors, and PhD students at UTS, and was able to contribute to some super interesting research. It was a great experience and the highlight of my degree. Overall, my degree has helped me strengthen my critical thinking skills and boosted my public speaking skills.
My dream job would be something in forensic anthropology. I love human anatomy and combining it with my love for problem-solving and puzzles by examining factors around the body to form a conclusion, would be something I would love to bring into a career.
The forensic science degree is a great mix of all-rounder forensic knowledge, with in-depth specific subjects for whatever your passion within forensics is. It has a great emphasis on practical skills, such as experimental and technical skills, as well as report writing and communication skills.
My advice for new students starting at UTS is to take a day to explore the campus. Find all the best cafes and study spots. I strongly suggest stopping at uni bros in building 2. Also, I recommend joining societies to find friends with common interests that you can socialise with, study alongside, and grow with throughout your studies.
