What is your major?
Nanotechnology
What did you do before you started your course?
Prior to studying I was an Aircraft Technician in the Royal Australian Air Force.
What motivated you to study this degree/major?
A fascination of how things work down to the tiniest scale.
What do you enjoy most about your degree?
The hands on experience, giving me the opportunity to not only learn things but learn how to do things.
Why did you choose to study at UTS?
After taking a tour of the UTS Nanotechnology labs during an open day many years ago, it inspired me to pursue an education in the field of nanotechnology at UTS.
What is it like to study at UTS Science?
It is a very practical experience with a focus on hands-on education, making it ideal for those who love to learn by doing.
What advice you would give to students studying this degree?
The biggest realisation I have had is that an undergrad degree is just the beginning. Make the most of the opportunities out there, you may need to seek them out—but they will definitely put you ahead of the game.
What would you like to do once you complete your degree?
I wish to complete my Honours year and eventually a PhD.
What other activities do you participate/do at uni?
Over the summer I enrolled in a Science Research Internship working in the UTS Microstructural Analysis Unit. My project involves the production and characterisation of carbocatalysts for energy production. This is a continuation of a project which I have been working on as a volunteer research assistant since my first year of undergraduate study.
