My experience at UTS far-exceeded my expectations
I am from a Sri Lankan background and was born and raised in Chennai, India. I have always been passionate and curious about science. At 10 years of age, my mother gifted me an encyclopedia and I would often find myself reading the science part of the book. Hence from a young age, I had a very strong interest in science.
In school, I studied biology and decided that I wanted to pursue a career in science. I researched a number of different science courses and discovered Biomedical Engineering. This course was the perfect combination for me as it allowed me to learn about both science and engineering. Hence, this is the degree I choose to study.
I decided to complete my studies at UTS because of its reputation for having excellent research opportunities and amazing facilities. My experience at UTS far exceeded my expectations. UTS gave me the opportunity to prepare for my future career in a real-world environment. Notably, my time studying at UTS has changed the way I approach collaboration with others and has led me to develop a more positive attitude about working with others, something that is essential in the workplace.
One of the highlights of my time at UTS was the research project that I undertook in my final semester. I was able to collaborate with FEIT, work in the lab and learn new research techniques and other skills with the help of my supervisor, who was very encouraging and supportive. As I pursue a career, I plan to utilize these skills and hopefully become an expert in the field!
I would highly recommend Biomedical Engineering to students who have an interest in both technology and science and if you want to use technology to make a difference. If you don’t have a particular area that you are interested in, biomedical engineering allows you to explore lots of different subjects related to electronics, medical imaging, physiology, and more. The course has different streams and allows you to explore lots of different areas before deciding which field you want to pursue a career in. Self-motivation and time management are key factors that will determine your success in this course. I would encourage students to participate in the competitions that are held by the university as this will help build confidence and learn valuable skills.
UTS is one of the best universities in Australia and allows students to gain the qualifications they need to be successful in their career
