What did you major in?
Medical Biotechnology.
What did you do before you started your course?
I was employed as a Trainee Hospital Scientist in the Haematology department of SEALS Pathology during the final year of my Bachelor's degree, which I also completed at UTS. This enabled me to gain a position as a Technical Officer (and later Hospital Scientist) at SEALS after graduation.
What motivated you to study this degree/major?
I wanted to stay in the same industry and keep informed about current technology in science while also advancing my career prospects.
What do you enjoy most about your degree?
This degree is always making me think outside of my comfort zone and consider things that would not naturally occur to me. I also enjoyed learning more about the business and innovative side of science.
Why did you choose to study at UTS?
I chose to study at UTS as I had previously completed a Bachelor of Science in Biomedical Science degree here. I also like how the core subjects are geared towards enhancing your professional skills in the workplace.
What is it like to study at UTS Science?
UTS science is thought-provoking and interesting. The lecturers and demonstrators have a lot of experience in their field and can give you practical advice on their field of expertise.
Is there any advice you would give to students studying this degree?
Ask a lot of questions! The lecturers are really willing to help, and may know of job opportunities through connections in their industry.
What would you like to do once you have completed your degree?
I would like to continue working and building on the knowledge I've gained during Masters, while working towards becoming an expert in my field.
