Studying law opens up a myriad of other opportunities.
“Being a practising lawyer is one of the most rewarding careers you can have and studying law also opens up a myriad of other opportunities in Government, not-for-profit and the corporate sector.”
Since studying his two passions and graduating with a Bachelor of Laws/Bachelor of Arts in Communication (Journalism) Sayed Hussainizada’s career path has been both diverse and rewarding.
After finishing in 2017, Sayed took on the role of Graduate Solicitor at a corporate law firm. Since then, his positive ‘give it a go’ attitude has landed him a range of legal and non-legal roles where he has been able to apply skills gained from both areas of study.
“UTS provided me with both practical and theoretical knowledge. It was a holistic learning experience, which is extremely useful in the workplace.”
Sayed nominates his time working as an advisor with the Department of the Prime Minister and Cabinet as the most rewarding part of his career so far but he’s still drawn to the law and now works as a practising solicitor with a boutique law firm.
He advises students to explore a variety of law subject areas and seize every practical opportunity while studying – for example, mooting competitions are challenging and enable students to meet new people, improve communication skills and gain confidence.
“Take chances and enjoy the journey. The best part of university is the people you meet, so keep connecting and learning from those around you. My friends from university are now also my colleagues.”
Sayed says taking advantage of everything UTS Law has to offer is the best preparation for life after university.
“I consider myself extremely fortunate to have been able to pursue a variety of career opportunities as a result of my involvement in the community and my qualification.”
