Emmanuel Georgouras
The decision to study postgraduate law was one of the best academic and career decisions I've made
“I chose the UTS Juris Doctor because of its reputation, close proximity to the Sydney CBD and the faculty’s approach to teaching the course.”
For his undergraduate degree, Emmanuel Georgouras studied a Bachelor of Socio-Legal Studies and majored in History. He then worked for several years in the commercial world as a business developer before deciding he needed a post-grad qualification.
Emmanuel says a JD was on the top of his list.
“I was always interested in the law and wanted to be a lawyer ever since Legal Studies in high school, but it took me a few years to decide and commit to the intense course load of a postgraduate law degree.”
For Emmanuel, the flexibility and structure of the UTS JD meant he could continue with his full-time job while attending night classes and completing essays and assignments on weekends.
He also praises the core and elective subjects for their practicality and real-world focus.
‘The course content provided me with the knowledge required to comprehend complex issues within the commercial law space, aided by my chosen electives of Finance Law, Corporate Insolvency and Corporate Governance.’
Emmanuel is now a commercial lawyer working with Corrs Chambers Westgarth. He says the JD was challenging at times but he has no regrets:
‘The decision to return to study postgraduate law was one of the best academic and career decisions I have ever made - it built on the foundations of my previous qualifications and commercial experience and opened up a world of endless possibilities.’
