Studying this course has been very rewarding because I am able to learn about what I want to learn.
Exercise and sport have always been a significant part of my life. I’m incredibly passionate about the body and its facilitation for movement in all forms. I find everything about the way we move just from walking down the street to jumping metres into the air fascinating. Likewise, I have always been interested in how things work, and particularly, why things hurt and how the body fixes that, and the ways that we can facilitate that healing process through more exercise, rather than just medication or rest.
So, this was a natural career path for me to take. Having experienced several injuries from dance, and watching others undergo the recovery process, I knew I wanted to be in this field, specifically in physiotherapy.
After coming to UTS Open Day, I fell in love with the university. The Bachelor of Sport and Exercise Science offered the perfect pathway for me to achieve this goal, as it leads to entry into the Master of Physiotherapy. I think being such a young, creative university had a lot to do with the attraction. Plus, the opportunity to learn in the facilities offered at the Moore Park campus was incredibly appealing.
What set UTS apart as well was the fact that I would be able to work alongside high-performance athletes during my studies. The offering of the Masters of Physiotherapy also sealed the deal, because it means that I can undertake all my study in one place.
Studying this course has been very rewarding because I am able to learn about what I want to learn. Outside of the course content, there are also opportunities to extend myself and my knowledge in interactive ways. It doesn’t feel like studying! If I do find I need extra study or revision, UTS offers U:PASS, which is a tremendous help.
We are also offered countless opportunities to gain work experience and build our resumes while studying this course. For example, we are able to fast track a fitness or personal training certificate. Being able to work and gain industry experience while I study has been amazing.
If you’re considering UTS as an option, come and throw yourself into everything the uni has to offer. This course is amazing, having both the management and science majors as well as many other pathways. Being able to be involved in all areas of exercise science is invaluable, because you can get a taste of the entire industry.
