I’m a people person, which was a huge factor in my decision to study nursing.
I was born and raised in Sydney into a small, tightknit family, as I’m an only child. Outside uni, I love to spend my time participating in team sports, such as soccer. I would say I’m a people person, which was a huge factor in my decision to study nursing. I like being in a job that involves meeting and talking to lots of different people. I also like the variety that nursing gives and the travel options it offers as a career.
I’m passionate about having a positive impact on my community and about having a strong social and family life. I think my clinical placements have been the aspect of the course that make me feel the most rewarded. Getting to experience my future profession first-hand and being able to care for real patients has been the best experience of the degree.
I chose UTS for their impressive nursing facilities and the diverse placement options offered. I also really liked the feel of the City campus. The independent learning style at university has made me much more independent and increased my confidence significantly. Furthermore, having the responsibility of caring for real patients during placements, I have matured significantly by experiencing what can sometimes be quite confronting health care situations.
In the future, I’m planning to work in general nursing for a few years, before eventually completing a graduate diploma in midwifery. I also plan to work overseas for a couple of years, hopefully in the UK.
I would advise future students to make the most of the opportunities and resources provided to them by UTS. For example, submitting interest in rural placements, going to careers expos or using services such as UTS HELPS. All of these are very useful and are great learning and development opportunities.
