From the moment I graduated from High School, I knew that I wanted to pursue a career in psychology. I completed a Bachelor of Psychology with First Class Honours at the University of Sydney. I then completed my Master of Clinical Psychology at UTS in 2017 and I’m currently working on my PhD.
Aside from psychology, my other passion is music. I’m a classically trained pianist and I’ve performed nationally and internationally. Most notably, I was selected as a winner of an international music competition in 2015 and performed at the prestigious Carnegie Hall, New York.
I elected to study the UTS Master of Clinical Psychology because I believe in the importance of continuing education and I felt that a Masters degree would provide a platform for research and clinical practice.
I chose to study at UTS, because I was really impressed by the state of the art facilities and supportive nature of the staff.
Training in the university clinic alongside clinical psychology peers was a highly valuable and very rewarding experience. Furthermore, the placement opportunities provided within various hospitals and community organisations were highly rewarding and allowed for additional development of skills and exposure to a range of clinical work.
Throughout the Master of Clinical Psychology degree, I developed a deeper appreciation of the role of clinical psychologists within multidisciplinary teams. The combination of the Master degree and PhD has allowed me to develop and refine my research skills, while highlighting the importance of the scientist practitioner model.
Overall the assessments were often very applicable to clinical practice and incorporated practical tasks such as role plays.
We had numerous guest lecturers present on areas of particular expertise, including topics such as working with Aboriginal Australians, working with clients with personality disorders and specific training in Dialectical Behaviour Therapy.
FInding support at UTS is easy. The staff involved at UTS: Clinical Psychology are all very supportive and approachable.
While I am continuing work on my PhD, I have begun the clinical psychology registrar program. I currently work with St John of God running group therapy programs for adults with mental health disorders, and also work at a private practice seeing clients with a range of presentations.
My current goals are to finish the clinical psychology registrar program over the next two years and complete my PhD.
