I’m intrigued and excited by the opportunities that behavioural economics (BE) offers in understanding decision making and human behaviour - and in my field of public policy, to improve health outcomes and reduce inequalities.
There aren’t many courses available in BE, especially in Australia, and when I saw UTS was offering a Graduate Certificate in BE I signed up immediately. I thought the course would be an extension of the resources that I’ve been using, but the course covers so much more than I had anticipated.
The Grad Cert does an amazing job of building a foundational understanding of the economic frameworks. It then explored how people systematically deviate from them, under what conditions and how BE can be used to improve behaviour. Then, importantly, the basics of testing your interventions. I was able to apply insights learned through this course immediately in strategy development, stakeholder engagement, intervention design and evaluation. The lecturers have a wealth of academic and industry experience and the UTS Behavioural Lab offers regular guest lectures so you can learn from research currently underway in Australia and abroad.
I have enjoyed and benefited so much from the Grad Cert so much that I have continued on to do the Masters.
