Alex Foster
During my time at UTS, I mastered situations that I would normally avoid in my current workplace.
Why did you choose the EMBA at UTS?
I’m currently working in the retail industry, and I wanted to make sure that I continued to update my skills and challenge myself in order to remain at pace with industry change. I chose the EMBA program at UTS as it was evident the design of the EMBA program provides exposure to topics, models and ideas: but also is also facilitated by leading researchers and industry specialists who insist that you put these into practice to embed your learning. The opportunity to apply this in the classroom, through industry engagement and within your current workplace enabled me to extract maximum persona and professional benefit from the EMBA program.
What’s the most valuable thing you’ve learned?
The EMBA program provided me opportunity to really challenge myself beyond my day-to-day professional boundaries. From this, I have built and further built on an experience base that has provided me experience that I draw upon further when faced with new challenges within my workplace.
What are you most proud of during your time at UTS?
During my time at UTS I was able to master situations that I would normally avoid in my current workplace. I was able to learn and apply new skills, and persevere through tasks and learning to achieve demonstrable outcomes. In a tight knit group of fellow EMBA students, we were able to engage an external client, study and understand a real business problem, and apply ourselves as a team of “consultants” to assist our client. This engagement was fully supported by an industry mentor, teaching staff of UTS and a works-leading program. The result had a tangible benefit for our client, and likewise for our learning experience.
