Overview
The New Colombo Plan Mobility Program provides opportunities for Australian undergraduate university students to participate in semester-based or short-term study in the Indo-Pacific region.
The New Colombo Plan (NCP) includes options to study in 40 countries and territories across the region. The funding awarded to UTS is granted for specific study opportunities in nominated countries known as Mobility Projects, some of which fund overseas Global Short Programs.
Who is eligible?
Most eligibility criteria apply to both short-term study opportunities and semester based study opportunities.
If you are interested in short-term study opportunities, review approved NCP mobility projects on the Global Short Programs website.
If you are interested in semester based study opportunities, review the approved NCP mobility projects on the Global Exchange website.

Selection process
Global Short Programs or Faculty led programs
You do not need to submit a separate application for the grant. You will automatically be considered when you apply for a Global Short Program or Faculty led program. UTS International will assess your eligibility applications.
You must demonstrate why you are motivated to participate in your nominated international program and explain how it will enhance your graduate outcomes.
Semester based Mobility Grants
You do not need to submit a separate application for the grant. You will automatically be considered for these grants when you apply to study at an eligible location under the UTS Global Exchange Program. However, you must apply for the NCP Language and Internship Grants (see Other Information below).
To be considered for an NCP Mobility Grant, follow the usual Global Exchange application process and select universities in NCP eligible countries. Check with UTS’s Study Abroad and Exchange team to find out which partner universities and countries offer NCP grants.
If you are nominated to go on exchange to one of the eligible countries, you will be assessed for the NCP grant automatically. Your average grades and the number of grants available will also be considered. The UTS Study Abroad and Exchange team will contact you if you are eligible to receive a grant. Where UTS received more eligible applicants than available grants, the mobility grants will be allocated to the students with the highest WAMs.

Other information
New Colombo Plan Language Grants
In some cases, UTS may have received additional NCP Language Grants of $1000 to support 'not for credit' language studies related to a NCP Mobility Grant. This will support study of the language of the country in which you will be studying, before you commence your semester.
Contact UTS's exchange team to find out whether language grants are available for the country you have selected for your exchange. If available, notify the exchange team of your intention to apply.
After you have been accepted by your host university, you will need to prepare and lodge evidence of enrolment in a 'not for credit' language course before you commence your exchange semester. Language grants cannot be awarded after you have commenced your semester of exchange.
New Colombo Plan Internship Grants
The Australian Government considers internships as integral to the New Colombo Plan. Internships help students prepare for the workplace, enabling them to establish professional connections in the region and link their study experience directly to career opportunities.
In some cases, UTS may have received additional NCP Internship Grants of $1000 to support internships related to a NCP Mobility Grant.
After you have been accepted by your host university, you will need to prepare and lodge evidence of an offer of internship to commence during or after your exchange semester. Internship grants cannot be awarded after you have completed your semester of exchange.
