The Lawrence Vidoni Memorial Scholarship has been established to support an undergraduate UTS student with a physical disability and demonstrated financial hardship to achieve their educational goals.
Who is eligible?
To be eligible for the Scholarship, an applicant must meet all of the following criteria:
- Australian or New Zealand citizen or the holder of an Australian permanent resident visa or permanent humanitarian visa; and
- Be enrolled in a UTS undergraduate degree; and
- Be registered with the UTS Accessibility Service on a permanent basis at the point of scholarship selection; and
- Have a physical disability; visual or hearing impairment; or any other ongoing health condition with a significant impact on mobility, as confirmed by UTS Accessibility Service.
- Gives permission for the UTS Accessibility Service to share this information with the Scholarships Office for the purposes of determining eligibility; and
- Have applied through the Universities Admissions Centre (UAC) for an Equity Scholarship and therein demonstrate financial disadvantage
- Through receiving a means-tested Commonwealth income support payment (such as Parenting Payment Single, Disability Support Pension, Carer’s Allowance, Austudy, ABSTUDY, Youth Allowance), or by providing comprehensive information demonstrating exceptional financial hardship;[1] and
- All candidates must apply using the UTS online Scholarships Application form to be eligible.
[1] Students may make an appointment for an alternative financial assessment with the UTS Financial Assistance Service in the Student Services Unit in order to evidence financial disadvantage. This is only available in cases when an applicant has been deemed ineligible on the basis of not meeting the financial hardship criteria as specified above and as outlined in the UAC application, or has been unable to submit an Equity Scholarship
Selection process
As demonstrated in the scholarship application:
- Motivation and commitment to succeed in their UTS degree
- Likelihood that receiving the scholarship will have a positive impact on the Recipient’s ability to successfully complete their degree,
- Personal and professional aspirations present and future
- Motivation to implement long-term goals to overcome adversity
- Financial need as assessed by the UAC Equity Scholarship application process.
NOTE: Preference may be given to students who, within the two years immediately prior to the start of their UTS study, lived in a regional or remote area of Australia for at least 12 months[1].
[1] Assessment will be made based on information gathered as part of the UAC Equity Scholarship application.
