Overview
To provide project-based, climate-focused international study tours for students in Architecture, Landscape Architecture, and Interior Architecture. The program provides the opportunity for undergraduate and postgraduate coursework students in the School of Architecture to experience globally significant architecture culture and history, and deepen familiarity with regions and issues under analysis further expanding a student’s intellectual and disciplinary development on how architecture, landscape architecture, and interiors can support broader social ambitions for mitigation and adaptation to climate change.
Who is eligible?
To be eligible for the Prize an applicant must:
- Be enrolled in any undergraduate or post-graduate (by coursework) UTS School of Architecture course; and
- Be enrolled in the Global Climate Studio subject; and
In the case of Undergraduate students, the applicant must:
- Have completed a minimum of 48 credit points in their enrolled undergraduate course; and
- Have achieved a Weighted Average Mark (WAM) of 65 or higher in their currently enrolled UTS undergraduate architecture course; or
In the case of Postgraduate Courswork students, the applicant must:
- Have achieved a Weighted Average mark (WAM) of 65 or higher in their completed undergraduate degree used on the basis of admission to their post-graduate degree.
- Applicants from undertaking postgraduate coursework who did not undertake their undergraduate degree at UTS must submit their UG transcript.
Should places remain unfilled, first year undergraduate students may be considered by the Selection Committee, provided they meet the 48-credit point and WAM criteria by the time the studio subject commences.
Selection process
- Academic merit (WAM);
- Demonstrated commitment to architecture studies;
- Potential for the travel experience to further the Recipient’s architecture career;
- Evidence of how the prize would be used to enhance and/or support the quality of participation in the Global Studio travel experience
Students will be invited to submit an expression of interest (EOI) to participate in the Global Climate Studio Program as determined and set out by the School of Architecture. Eligible applications will be reviewed by the Selection Committee, who will assess the written applications and make selections based on the above criteria.

The Seidler Architectural Foundation has donated to the university to support the Seidler Global Climate Studio Program Prize within the Faculty of Design Architecture and Building. UTS School of Architecture are committed to advancing the fields of architecture, landscape architecture, and interior design through our research, teaching, and engagement. The design professions are in a transitional period wherein climate change, racial and gender injustice, and the global pandemic have shaken our disciplinary foundations in vital and generative ways. At UTS, our school has been experimenting with new terms and approaches for cultivating design excellence, critical design pedagogies and design imaginaries that embrace diverse perspectives, aptitudes, and aspirations.
Focusing on three core areas—Decolonisation, Decarbonisation, and Urban Equity—across teaching, research, and engagement, our approach is geared at encouraging a deeper awareness of the social and political contexts of design and emphasises our collective responsibility to the future. To further our commitment, we aim to collaborate and work alongside industry and government agencies to build upon these strengths.
The Seidler Global Climate Studio Program Prize further reinforces the school’s dedication to advancing students' intellectual and disciplinary development, particularly in addressing climate change through architecture, landscape architecture, and interior design.
