Overview
The Group GSA Indigenous Architecture Scholarship aims to support a thriving Indigenous contribution to architectural culture and production, representing approaches to issues of design, construction, sustainability and landscape by providing financial assistance to an Indigenous student and the opportunity for a paid cadetship with Group GSA.
Who is eligible?
To be eligible for the Scholarship, an applicant must meet all of the following criteria:
- Be of Australian Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander descent and provide either:
- a Confirmation of Aboriginality from a Local Aboriginal Land Council or other Aboriginal or Torres Strait Islander organisation; or
- a UTS Statutory Declaration form accompanied by two written references from Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander people from the applicant’s community who can confirm their identity and are not an immediate family member; and
- For undergraduate students:
- be enrolled full-time in the Bachelor of Design in Architecture (single or combined); and
- achieved a Weighted Average Mark of a Pass (WAM 50 +) or above in any undergraduate subjects undertaken to date; and
- be under 25 years of age at the commencement of the relevant year.
- For Masters students:
- commencing the Masters of Architecture with a GPA of 4.25 or above in the undergraduate degree that formed their basis of admission; or
- continuing enrolment in the Masters of Architecture having:
- completed no more than 36 credit points, and
- achieved a Weighted Average Mark of a Pass (WAM 50 +) or above in their Masters subjects undertaken to date; and
- Will need to provide at least one relevant academic reference.
- All applicants must provide a curriculum vitae.
- All applicants must apply using the UTS online Scholarship Application form to be eligible.
- All applicants must be able to attend an interview, if required.
Selection process
As demonstrated in the Scholarship application and interview:
- Passion for and motivation to succeed in UTS course and pursue a career in Architecture;
- Initiative to seek opportunities to continually advance their professional and personal lives;
- Alignment of values, goals and culture with those of Group GSA – including commitment to the cultural identity and heritage of the Indigenous community and drive to make positive change and opportunities for Indigenous Australians nationally;
- Motivation to participate and undertake a placement with Group GSA.
