New Book on Sub-National Governance and Development
Effective governance is a crucial aspect of all modern nations. Through various collaborative efforts and processes, nations can enhance their current governance systems. A new publication from IGI Global, the Handbook of Research on Sub-National Governance and Development is a pivotal reference source for the latest scholarly material on the intersection between local and national politics, analysing how this relationship affects nations’ economy and administration.
The new book aims to expand the knowledge-base of alternative approaches to local, regional, and national governance and development, and fills the void in current research and policy literature by exposing theoretical and practical ideas about the contribution that subnational political institutions can make to national development.
Highlighting theoretical foundations and real-world applications, it is ideally designed for professionals, academics, students, and practitioners actively involved in the fields of public policy and governance. With 24 chapters covering topics such as decentralisation, democratic governance, fiscal responsibility, political empowerment, public services and subnational finance, the book offers new insights into place-based thinking, but also raises important implications about the responsiveness and capacity of subnational institutions.
