The UTS Centre for Quantum Software and Information (UTS QSI) is seeking bright, enthusiastic students to join our Quantum PhD Event on September 16. Up to 20 travel awards will be presented to selected early-bird registrants living outside the Sydney Basin area.
Who should attend?
Students graduating this year (or recent graduates) with a Master’s or Honours in physics, mathematics, computer science or a relevant engineering discipline. UTS promotes a culturally diverse, gender-inclusive and accessible university environment.

Early-bird registration (to be eligible for a travel award) until 5:00 pm, Monday 9th September 2019.
Standard registration until 5:00pm, Thursday 12th September 2019.
Travel awards
Up to 20 awards covering travel and attendance costs will be presented to selected early-bird registrants living outside the Sydney Basin area.
Each award will cover your return flight* (domestic travel) or transport fares, together with one night's accommodation & breakfast** in Sydney. Successful registrants will be notified by Tuesday 10th September 2019, to discuss accommodation and reimbursement of flights.
*Standard economy flights will be reimbursed **The value of accommodation & breakfast combined, will not exceed $270.

4:15pm: Quickfire research A brief pitch on each QSI research program
4:45pm: Supervisor catch-ups Meet one-on-one with our supervisors, to discuss your thesis ideas and to ask plenty of questions.

What is quantum information science?
Quantum computers have emerged as the most viable candidate for a computing technology that can push beyond the limitations of the classical Turing Machine and the oncoming consequences of the end of Moore’s Law. This key technology stems from the realization that information processing is fundamentally connected to physical theories and that our most basic physical theory determines our capacity to process information. Quantum Information Science lies at the intersection of mathematics, computer science, physics, and engineering and this interdisciplinary approach has caused a revolution in thinking in both the physical and information sciences.
About the Centre for Quantum Software and Information
The UTS Centre for Quantum Software and Information (UTS QSI) is a world-leading research institute for quantum computing and home to a new state-of-the-art Millikelvin Quantum Science lab facility for superconducting qubit experiments. We work with researchers in Australia and around the world on both the foundational understanding of quantum information science and on developing the software, information processing and hardware infrastructure required for future quantum technologies.
Our theoretical research spans the “full stack” of development of quantum computing and communication, while our hardware team focusses on developing tools and techniques critical for superconducting circuit-based quantum information science, one of the most promising hardware platforms for quantum computing.
