Trust & News Media in Australia Study Launch
CMT’s Peter Fray and Sacha Molitorisz will launch the study, which highlights key findings surrounding this global conversation and the local Australian context followed by a panel featuring Andrew Hunter of Facebook, Denise Shrivell MediaScope Founder & Industry Commentator, Tory Maguire of Fairfax and Prof. Peter Fray of the Centre for Media Transition.
To celebrate the launch of Centre for Media Transition’s new study, ‘Trust & News Media in Australia: A Qualitative Study’, join us for a panel discussion about public trust in news media.
The second decade of the 21st century has sparked a global conversation on trust in news media — and trust in general. CMT’s Peter Fray and Sacha Molitorisz will launch the study, supported by APAC News Literacy Working Group, which highlights key findings surrounding this global conversation and the local Australian context.
The panel will feature Andrew Hunter of Facebook, Denise Shrivell MediaScope Founder & Industry Commentator, Tory Maguire of Fairfax and Prof. Peter Fray of the Centre for Media Transition, who will discuss the issues and perspectives surrounding the new study.

SPEAKERS
Peter Fray: Author, and researcher: Co-director of the Centre for Media Transition and professor of Journalism industry practice at the University of Technology Sydney. Formerly publisher, editor-in-chief and editor of The Sydney Morning Herald, editor of The Canberra Times, and The Sunday Age, deputy editor, of The Australian and The Sun-Herald and founder/editor-in-chief PolitiFact Australia.
Sacha Molitorisz: Author and researcher: Postdoctoral research fellow at the Centre for Media Transition at the University of Technology Sydney. In 2017, he completed his PhD into the ethics of digital privacy, to be published by UNSW Press in 2019. Previously, he was a journalist at The Sydney Morning Herald. He has degrees in arts and law and his research interests include privacy and trust.
Tory Maguire: National Editor of The Sydney Morning Herald and The Age. She is responsible for coverage of federal politics, business and international. Formerly, the editor-in-chief of The Huffington Post, national opinion editor and journalist at News Corp Australia, deputy editor and editor of The Punch, Assistant Editor and political Reporter of The Daily Telegraph.
Andrew Hunter: News Partnerships Lead for Australia and New Zealand for Facebook. Formerly co-founder of Share Wars, market Lead, Information and Content Experiences Australia and New Zealand at Microsoft, market Lead and Editor-in-Chief at MSN Australia, network director, head of network, head of news (sports and finance), Executive producer (news and current affairs) and news editor at Ninemsn.
Denise Shrivell: Founder of MediaScope, and Peggy’s List. Founder of MediaScope, Peggy’s List & 35 year industry veteran. Denise has worked with major ad, media agencies & publishers including News Corp & Fairfax. She now runs MediaScope which produces the well known MediaScape guides mapping the entire Australian media landscape. Formerly sales trainer and content developer for Digital Chameleon, sales and marketing director for Essential Baby and Fairfax Media, Business Development Manager at BRW Publications (Fairfax media), and senior manager at News Corp.
