Dr Avinash Singh of UTS Australian Artificial Intelligence Institute (AAII) has teamed up with PhD student Sergio Martins to found a UTS Startup 'SAPIIENT Advanced Technologies'. Together, they have won 'Start Up Solution of the Year' at the 2022 iAwards for their proposed product: an artificial intelligence enabled ship hull inspection enterprise solution.
The Autonomous Underwater Vehicle (AI-AUV)'s AI model can perform routine ship hull inspections remotely and provide real-time data analysis. The captured data has a vast range of uses, from autonomous navigation to scan a ship's critical infrastructure, to generating inspection reports.
We proposed to develop the AI-AUV to perform various marine operations such as research, survey, and inspection. The idea was ignited through the very first DStart program by Defence Science and Technology Group in partnership with CSIRO in 2021 and has kept growing since then.
