Managing your IP - avoiding mistakes and focusing on impact
Achieving impact from research requires not only great research but also the implementation of research outcomes.
Managing intellectual property, before, during and after the research is conducted, not only increases the likelihood of achieving impact but also broadens the opportunities for impact.
This will be an interactive workshop. A quick review of intellectual property basics will lead to a discussion of key issues in managing intellectual property in a research team. To assist those pursuing projects with industry funding, we will consider the alternatives for ownership and management of the intellectual property in these projects. By identifying key issues for negotiation, this workshop will give participants the fundamental knowledge and basic skills they need to engage in negotiations around intellectual property in research projects and identify the key people and resources available within the university to assist researchers in these matters.
This will be an active workshop to not just learn, but to practice that new knowledge and strengthen skills.
