Carer-in-Residence
The Carer-in-Residence is a unique role at UTS, providing an exploration of how to deepen and ground carers research with the lived experience of a carer. Originally based within the Centre for Carers Research (and now hosted by the Carer Knowledge Exchange), the role provides flexible, respectful work to a promising researcher who is also a carer.
As an experimental approach to providing flexible work opportunities for carers, it is hoped the learnings will assist in establishing future Carer-in-Residence positions across a diverse range of workplaces and institutions.

Reflections and Learning: Leila Frijat
In July 2020 Leila Frijat became the second UTS Carer-in-Residence following in the giant footsteps of Tania Teague following her 14 month residency.
Like Tania, Leila shared her experience within the role, asking the question:
- How has being a Carer-in-Residence changed me?
The UTS Carer-in-Residence recorded her reflections in a learning blog, documenting the story of the role and her shifts in thinking.
Learn more about Tania and Leila's experiences in the role in their blog.
