Vice-Chancellor’s Conference Fund

The Vice Chancellor’s Conference Fund (VCCF) provides financial support for graduate research students to participate in academic conferences and is currently available to students looking to participate at both an in-person or online/virtual conference organised locally, nationally or overseas. Please ensure that you read the related documents thoroughly before applying. 

Funding of up to $3,000 is available throughout your candidature for conference registration fees, travel/airfare and accommodation costs.

Eligibility and How to Apply

Read the Vice-Chancellor's Conference Fund Guidelines for eligibility.

Steps to apply:

  1. Complete the Vice-Chancellor's Conference Fund Application Form;
  2. Submit your application form and documentary evidence to your faculty prior to the deadline for RAO approval; and
  3. Your faculty must submit your application to research scholarships​ team​ by the advertised deadline. Late, incomplete and retrospective applications will not be considered.

All applications will be assessed by a selection panel using a point-based system. You will be notified of the outcome of your application via email. Please refer to the Selection Committee Terms of Reference for more information.

If your application is successful, please submit a Vice Chancellor's Conference Fund - Student Report within 2 months of your conference. Please refer to a sample Vice Chancellor’s Conference Fund report.

VCCF Privacy Notice

In applying for the Vice‐Chancellor's Conference Fund (VCCF), the Graduate Research School (referred to as us, we, or GRS) will be collecting information relevant to your application, including your course and contact details, personal statement and evidence supporting your application and eligibility. Your information will be used to assess your application, verify information provided, manage the provision of funds to you if approved, and confirm your ongoing eligibility.

Where successful, your bank details will also be collected to facilitate payments to you. Your bank account details will remain in the student system and may be used for other current and future scholarship payments. You can update those details at any time.

Additional information will be collected when you submit your conference report, which is a condition of the VCCF. Your report may be made publicly available to showcase UTS student research activities. Otherwise, we will manage your information in line with the provision of the Student Declaration privacy notice which also applies. You can contact us at grs@uts.edu.au for any questions or to make any requests under the Student Declaration privacy notice in relation to your application or the provision of funds to you.

Thesis Completion Support Grant

Formerly known as the Thesis Completion Equity Grant (TCEG), the Thesis Completion Support Grant (TCSG) can provide up to $5,000 funding to help you complete your thesis if you are experiencing financial hardship. Please ensure that you read the related documents thoroughly before applying.

To be considered for one of these grants, you will need to be:

  • a currently enrolled domestic or international student
  • in the last six months of your thesis
  • able to demonstrate financial hardship

Publication Fund Application

HDR students are encouraged to apply for a reimbursement of up to $5,000 for your open access fees or costs for publishing your work for a single, accepted publication. The publication must have been accepted in the last 6 months. Please ensure that you thoroughly read the eligibility requirements below before applying. If successful, the amount of the award is subject to availability of funding.

Eligibility and How to Apply

To be considered for funding, you must:

  • You will need to be a HDR student who is currently enrolled, not on a Leave of Absence or Under Examination, and have satisfactorily completed relevant stage assessments and review of progress as applicable to your stage of candidature.
  • You can apply for reimbursement for a single, accepted publication during your HDR candidature at UTS and the publication must have been accepted in the last 6 months.
  • Publication costs must be confirmed via tax invoices in your name by the below deadline.
  • Reimbursement will be paid into your active Australian bank account in your name.
  • You have not previously received the HDR Publication Fund during your candidature.

For more information and applications, please follow the following steps:

  1. You will need to complete the Publication Fund Application Form and attach relevant tax invoices in your name for publishing costs associated to a single, accepted publication.
  2. Submit your application form and supporting documents by deadline to the research scholarships​ team​ by the advertised deadline.

AWS Wildlife Ecology Science Research Scholarship

Funded by the Australian Wildlife Society, the Wildlife Ecology Science Research Scholarship is open to graduate students undertaking a research project that is directly connected to the conservation of Australian native flora and fauna.

In 2022, the Society celebrated a decade of support for wildlife research at the University of Technology Sydney. The ten recipients of the Society’s Wildlife Ecology Research Scholarships and their vital research projects over the past ten years can be viewed on the AWS News website.

One candidate will be awarded the scholarship each year. The recipient will be awarded $5,000 in total (one payment of $2,500 per semester for two semesters). Students must have completed Stage 1 of their research candidature prior to applying.
