Remembering Relationships. Big Ideas decoded with UTS

Memories can be painful, who hasn’t lamented over a lost love, friend or pet? Imagine, though, if you could influence your memories so it was easier to remember or indeed forget? With the digitisation of memory media (Instagram, Facebook and the thousands of pictures on your phone) we’re becoming increasingly reminded of the past. So, how can we harness personal media to reflect on past, present and indeed future experiences, in the way we want? Join us as we ponder memory, love and how objects can help us harness the power of our memory.

Daniel Orth

Daniel Orth is a PhD student from the University of Technology Sydney and focuses on product design. He has been investigating how designers can create objects that people cherish as part of the Materialising Memories research lab.

Professor Elise Van den Hoven

Elise van den Hoven is Professor in the School of Software, Faculty of Engineering and Information Technology (FEIT) at UTS and part-time associate professor in the Department of Industrial Design at Eindhoven University of Technology in the Netherlands.

Associate Professor Laurie Miller

Laurie Miller is a Neuropsychologist at the University of Sydney whose research focuses on the effects of focal brain lesions on cognition in general and retrograde memory in particular.

Moderator: Dr Honni van Rijswijk

Dr Honni van Rijswijk is a graduate of Sydney Law School and received her PhD from the University of Washington. She is currently a lecturer at UTS.
