Catalysing inclusive conversations about Sex – Sex Happens (UTS Startup)
Nicola Panapoulos: Co-founder, Sex Happens
About my work
I am cofounder of ‘Sex Happens’, and we are creating an adult card game that catalyses inclusive conversation about sex, dispels taboo and empowers players to own their sexual wellbeing. The idea was born out conversations between a diverse array of women conversing on the topic of sex and realising quickly that a common theme arose, none of us had had quality sex education. And yet sex happens, so why don’t we talk about it?
We kept hearing that ‘talking about sex is awkward’, so my mission is creating a world where not talking about sex is awkward. We know the conversations can be hard to start, so our game starts them for you. Sex is fundamental to our story of evolution, and regardless of your gender expression it may be something you want to explore. We all deserve to have fun and satisfying sexual experiences, and that starts with normalising that sex is messy and fun and different for everyone. If I had known some things were ‘normal’ earlier, I may have been more open to the concept of my own pleasure. I am passionate about making it easier for that exploration to be not only accepted but talked about, because sex happens, so we may as well talk about it!
A memorable win
