Thinking of applying for joint external funding? The KTP program can support you through the process.
Apply for joint external funding
When seeking external funding, collaboration can be instrumental to securing the income you need. Working with different researchers — and even across different industries — will enrich your application, expand the versatility of your research, and therefore broaden your eligibility for opportunities. The KTP program offers a variety of resources to support you along the way.
Here are our top tips for submitting an application:
- Brainstorm ideas for funding early to make the most of your time. There is often a long wait period to secure your research income.
- Seek early feedback from peers and professional staff to get the best out of your application.
- Be engaging. Why is your application important? Articulate the value of your work so it’s clear and direct for the funder to understand.
- Where will your research go? Think strategically about your intended outcomes so funders can understand what they’re supporting.

Our collaborative research is hugely beneficial. We may not have much facility to expand our research methodology at home — but, being here, we can expand and explore. We can heighten the impact of the papers we produce and give more visibility to our work. It's been an amazing experience.
