Women in Venture
In partnership with Reinventure, UTS Startups is hosting the second annual Women in Venture panel. This panel, led by Lauren Capelin of Reinventure, will be comprised of female representatives from Australia’s most prestigious venture capital firms and will focus on educating women about pursuing a career in venture capital. Through their ability to influence what innovations succeed, venture capitalists indirectly affect the lives of billions around the globe—yet less than 10% of decision-makers at VC firms are women, and female founders received less than 3% of VC funding in 2018.
Topics to be discussed at this session include:
- Why women should be considering careers in venture capital—the importance of having more innovation and investment that is by women and for women
- How to plan a career trajectory that includes venture capital—the most crucial skills to develop

Visiting Entrepreneur Program
The Visiting Entrepreneur Program (VEP) is a City of Sydney initiative that brings high profile international entrepreneurs to Sydney twice a year to share their expertise and knowledge with the local tech startup community. The program is supported by funding from the Australian Government’s program for entrepreneurs and the national innovation and science agenda.
As an ongoing partner, the UTS Innovation and Entrepreneurship Unit (IEU) is involved in a range of events, including talks, mentoring sessions and workshops. Upcoming events that UTS is hosting and participating in are listed below.
Sydney School of Entrepreneurship
Sydney School of Entrepreneurship (SSE) offers academic and co-curricular for all University of Technology Sydney students. UTS is a founding member of SSE and all units are available at no cost to UTS students.

- Have your thinking challenged – about your degree or diploma, about your career, about how you see the world, about what’s next.
- Meet inspiring and passionate people from around the state – SSE units bring together a diverse group of young people from 11 universities in NSW and TAFE NSW. You’ll make unique connections that could change the course of your life.
So, start something new and join a network of leading entrepreneurs, young people and startup organisations around the state.
