WHO Human Resources for Health Minimum Data Set (HRH MDS) Project
Phase II
The funding for Phase II of this project will help to strengthen HRH knowledge and policy development, by providing baseline information on HRH activity in the piloted countries from which country capacity can be assessed.
Phase II of the project involved: 1) Expansion of the HRH MDS template developed in Phase I (2006-2007) from solely nursing and midwifery to encompass the entire health workforce; 2) Testing and evaluating the HRH MDS template at country level to ensure consistency with WHO HRH Country Profiles; 3) Production of a checklist to assess country capacity for producing the country-specific HRH MDS.
Samoa and Vanuatu were involved in Phase II testing. The literature review aimed at examining existing tools and identifying the factors required for a country to carry out a HRH [MDS] data collection. Where possible, this work is being carried out in line with other regional projects.
Outcomes: The products set by WHO WPRO APW's have been produced for phases 1 and 2, the HRH minimum data set tool and capacity checklist were developed and the work was delivered within contractual timelines and budget.
Future impact: This work will continue to be monitored for its regional impact and phase 3 will further enable the project impact.
