‘Tax Wars’: What Do We Learn and Policy Consequences
The Accounting Department of the UTS Business School is proud to present at 6pm on 7 November 2024 a live Sydney premiere screening of the documentary film Tax Wars (produced in association with ICRICT, the Independent Commission for the Reform of International Corporate Taxation). Tax Wars “tells the story of the birth, the struggle and the first victories of these knights (experts from ICRICT) of tax justice against the empire of the multinationals.”
For more on Tax Wars, visit https://taxwars.org/en/the-film/.
The screening will be followed by a short presentation from a panel of experts and questions from the audience. The panel consists of Wayne Swan (ICRICT Commissioner), Melissa Donnelly (CPSU National Secretary), Michael West (Australian independent investigative journalist) and Dr Peter Davidson (ACOSS Principal Advisor). The combined screening and panel discussion is a continuing effort on behalf of the Accounting Department to engage with the community on critical issues such as social and tax justice.
The event is for anyone with an interest in corporate tax, particularly those who follow tax policy such as NGOs, business students, community and corporate representatives, and other interested groups. The aim is to highlight the importance of corporate tax policies and their impact on society by way of the film screening and panel discussion. Public policies that improve transparency and the fairness of tax paid by corporations have a significant impact on the federal budget, which in turn affects spending on healthcare, infrastructure, and other essential services.
