Australia-Vietnam Partnership Announced

The University of Technology Sydney and the Vietnam State Agency of Technology Innovation (SATI), housed within the Ministry of Science and Technology (MOST), announce a partnership.  The goal is to drive greater Australia-Vietnam collaboration across research, government, and industry; strengthen bilateral ties; and promote sustainable development. 


 

Flagship International Symposium

To formally launch the partnership, UTS and SATI will co-lead a significant international symposium – Building the Future: Technology, Innovation & Cooperation – on 1 November in Hanoi.  The event will bring together experts from Vietnam and Australia to discuss current challenges and collaborative solutions around science, technology, infrastructure, and innovation.

Research Leadership and other projects 

UTS has more than two decades of experience and expertise leading projects and programs between Australia and Vietnam.  

Faculty of Engineering and Information Technology

The Faculty of Engineering and Information Technology (FEIT) have built joint programs and high-quality research links with leading industry, government and education partners in Vietnam over the past 20 years. Real-life impacts have been made through joint research centres, research schools, pioneering technology transfer initiatives and business collaboration forums across Vietnam and in Australia.  The Joint Technology and Innovation Research Centre (JTIRC) is the first of its kind between Australia and Vietnam, driving research collaboration and technology transfer through PhD training, expert exchange programs, and industry engagement.  Recent FEIT projects in Vietnam cover technology transfer models, search and rescue operations, and enhancing a Vietnam innovation ecosystem - see more detail here

Faculty of Science

The Faculty of Science at UTS is dedicated to changing the world for the better through our impactful scientific research and innovative technology. The faculty’s cross-cutting research themes are better health and wellbeing, climate and environment solutions, Indigenous research and scholarship, and advances in science & technology for industry and society. The faculty is examining collaborative initiatives across research and industry in Vietnam with a particular interest in climate solutions and circular economy; food, medical and bio-technology; energy, sustainability and renewable science. 

School of Built Environment 

The UTS School of Built Environment (SBE) stands at the forefront of innovation in construction, property, project management and urban planning education. Renowned for its leadership in sustainability and digital technologies in the construction and infrastructure sectors, the SBE offers cutting-edge executive training programs that can help elevate Vietnamese knowledge and expertise in these fields. The SBE is a research leader in the technological transformation of the construction industry, creating resilient and green infrastructure, and enhancing social impact. By showcasing its engagement models with public and private Australian entities, the SBE aims to collaborate with Vietnamese partners to foster innovative and sustainable development in the built environment sector. 

Institute for Sustainable Futures

The Institute for Sustainable Futures (ISF) is recognised for leading research and partnerships addressing access to water and sanitation, climate change and building community resilience.  ISF has long standing relationships with research and industry groups across Viet Nam.  ISF’s work in Viet Nam applies innovative circular economy approaches in water and sanitation sectors, embraces a low-carbon power system by modelling renewable energy scenarios, and addresses water security for groundwater-dependent households in the Mekong Delta. 

Institute for Public Policy and Governance

The Institute for Public Policy and Governance (IPPG) specialises in executive training programs and master classes for leaders across government and industry nationally and internationally. Programs are tailored to address areas of sectoral and agency need, including international trade policy, regulatory best practice and reform, and effective public policy design, implantation and review.  IPPG runs regular high level leadership programs for Vietnam Government officials examining industry policy including planning and operations roll out.
