HTI partners with Atlassian on tool to promote companies’ responsible AI use
HTI advises Atlassian on tool to prevent harm and promote ethical and inclusive use of AI
Responsible Technology Review Template
The Responsible Technology Review Template has been developed as a guide for companies using and developing AI and other tech to avoid harmful, unintended consequences. Leading Australian software company Atlassian has shared this tool publicly for any organisation to use.
The UTS Human Technology Institute provided Atlassian with input and advice, particularly on the applicability of emerging international technical standards. The tool acts as a framework to mitigate AI-related unintentional bias and other harm, and to ensure AI use is accurate, safe and effective.
Atlassian is also HTI’s official technical advisory partner.
“HTI was really pleased to work with Atlassian on this initiative” HTI Co-Director Professor Nicholas Davis said. “This is a great example of how our partners are pushing the frontiers of human-centred AI in a really practical way – by designing an easy-to-use framework that any team in any industry can use when they are working with AI technologies.”
Professor Davis said that this framework links to HTI’s major program of work on AI Corporate Governance. Future work will include developing case studies of Australian companies who are leading the way in responsible AI development.
“Our own research has found that while AI is being embraced by the corporate sector, many corporate leaders are not fully aware of where AI is being used in their organisation, and lack the risk management and governance approaches to address potential AI harms.”
