Through the enjoyment of learning at UTS, I have created a vibrant career as an HR professional.
My parents are alumni of UTS and have always had great stories and memories of their studying at UTS. I had always wanted to complete my post-graduate at UTS, and the post-graduate Human Resources Management courses are designed to incorporate theory and practice in an agile, relevant and adaptable way. This type of learning mode appealed to my learning style.
UTS’ practice-orientated learning mode has helped me utilise the coursework I have learnt during my everyday practices as an emerging and modern HR professional. I always appreciated that the lecturers and academic support staff treat you like a person, not a student number. I still have great connections with some of my favourite and most influential academics and course peers.
I have learnt the power of someone believing in you. In the first year of my post-graduate studies, a lecturer encouraged and considered my writing and thoughts. Through her encouragement and kind words, I grew confident in my academic ability, which can be seen in my marks and how I now converse in personal, professional and social situations.
My post-graduate experience taught me the art of research-inspired and integrated learning. One of the best parts of the HRM post-graduate coursework was how the assignments and assessments encouraged individual thought and exploring HR topics and subjects that needed more research and development. This learning and assessment style has helped me become more agile and adaptable in conducting and using analysis to make everyday decisions in the workplace.
I am most proud of accelerating my HR career by taking the leap of faith and enrolling in the post-graduate degree in HRM at UTS. When I enrolled at the beginning of 2020, my original aim was to test the waters to see if HR was an additional skill set to gain as an executive assistant. But, through the encouragement and sheer enjoyment of learning about HRM at UTS, I have created a vibrant, rewarding and dynamic career as an HR professional in a few short years. Thanks, UTS!
