Insight Summary: The State of AI Governance in Australia
A quick guide to AI governance in Australia
In May 2023, HTI published the ground-breaking The State of AI Governance in Australia by Lauren Solomon and Professor Nicholas Davis on how Australian organisations are currently using and governing AI systems, and the evolving obligations of organisations and their corporate leaders.
The report found AI is being embraced in the corporate sector, however many senior leaders do not have the knowledge or effective governance structures to address and prevent AI related harms and risks.
Today, HTI has released the Insight Summary: The State of AI Governance in Australia, which is a concise, easy to read summary of its earlier report. It provides a quick guide to AI governance in Australia for corporate leaders and anyone interested in this issue.
The insight summary outlines the key insights of its report, including
- how and why AI is being used by Australian organisations
- the risks and harms of AI systems
- how organisations are currently governing AI
- the obligations that apply to corporate leaders and their organisations when using AI, and
- how AI governance can be improved by organisations.
The insight summary and report are part of HTI’s AI Corporate Governance Program, which aims to broaden understanding of corporate accountability and governance in the use of AI.
