Study and develop your career with an internship through UTS
As the Faculty of Arts and Social Sciences, we engage with outside industry in order to offer many of our students the opportunity to participate in internships, work placements and other work integrated learning environments.
This value-add to the course provides not only variety and real-life training, but also allows for networking and career development even while studying.
We took the chance to chat to a couple of people about their experiences interning at large organisations tailored specifically to their courses.
Why pursue an internship through the Faculty of Arts and Social Sciences?
I didn’t hesitate when I heard there was an opportunity to intern at Channel 9 as this was an amazing chance to gain industry experience and be exposed to the frameworks of News TV broadcasting.
Aaron Samson (intern at Channel 9)
the chance to gain some in-house perspective [at Booktopia] was interesting to me, especially at a company in the book and publishing world!
Sarah King (intern at Booktopia)
What is the biggest learning you had coming out of the internship through UTS?
I was able to be exposed to a lot of different environments and roles. I learnt that the industry has so many opportunities.

People skills are the most helpful part of building a career ... sitting in on any relevant/appropriate internal meetings to see how people work and learning how to talk about the passion you have for what you do, taught me so much...

How do organisations feel about UTS Faculty of Arts and Social Sciences interns?
I have to say how impressed I have been with every UTS FASS Media Arts and Production intern that has come our way. Each one has brought great personal and professional qualities to Nine and have all fitted in very well with our teams. The feedback from all our areas has been fantastic!

We have found that UTS FASS produces highly skilled and passionate professionals with a positive attitude to efficiently tackle new learning experiences and with fresh ideas to enhance the way we do things. We looked to find people who had an interest in marketing, communications - and books - and UTS FASS was a great place to find someone who filled these criteria. We look forward to hosting more student interns from the faculty.
