UTS and TU Braunschweig to collaborate more closely
The Technische Universität Braunschweig (TU Braunschweig) and the University of Technology Sydney (UTS) have agreed to collaborate more closely in research and teaching. In a Memorandum of Understanding signed today in Sydney by TU Braunschweig President Angela Ittel and UTS Deputy Vice Chancellor and Vice President (International) Iain Watt, both universities declare their intention to further expand and consolidate the academic exchange of students, researchers and staff.
The agreement builds on the existing fruitful collaboration between the two universities in the field of clean energy and process engineering, including a joint research project with the Fraunhofer Institute for Surface Engineering and Thin Films IST and the Australian Renewable Energy Agency ARENA on the cost-effective transport of green hydrogen from Australia to Germany. This successful collaboration will now be extended to all areas of the universities.
“Internationalisation at TU Braunschweig is one of the strategic priorities in the development of our university. Due to our shared values and similar understanding of our roles in society, we see the expansion of our partnership with the University of Technology Sydney, as a natural and very welcomed step. We are convinced that by intensifying cooperation between the members of our university, we can make a significant contribution to the development of promising technologies and innovation,” says Angela Ittel, President of the Technische Universität Braunschweig.
The University of Technology Sydney (UTS) is one of Australia’s leading universities and is ranked in the top 100 universities in the world by the QS World University Rankings. The Technische Universität Braunschweig is one of Germany’s leading technical universities and a member of the TU9 network. The planned cooperation between the two universities will combine the expertise and experience of two research-strong universities and offer students and researchers the opportunity for fruitful academic exchange and joint scientific work. UTS Deputy Vice Chancellor and Vice President (International), Iain Watt adds: “UTS is recognised as one of the world’s leading universities on sustainability impact; and deeper collaboration in areas like clean energy, will enable a brighter future for communities in Australia, Germany and globally. We’re pleased to be working with TU Braunschweig on initiatives that will help achieve this outcome”.
The Battery LabFactory Braunschweig (BLB) and the Institute of Energy and Systems Process Engineering at the Technische Universität Braunschweig has been working successfully with the Centre for Clean Energy Technology at the University of Technology Sydney for many years. Prof. Dr Daniel Schröder, Head of the Institute and member of the board of the Battery LabFactory Braunschweig: “I am particularly pleased that our fruitful cooperation is now expanded to a declaration of intent. There is great potential here for good academic exchange and joint research on pressing global problems, not only on clean energy conversion and storage, which we are already researching together. I also see good opportunities for developing a dual PhD programme at the intersection between material science and sustainable production technology”.
The MoU was signed on the sidelines of a trip to Australia by a German TU9 Alliance delegation.
